The bagel is not a newcomer to Central Europe. It was over 300 years ago that this round piece of bread with the hole in the center was created and presented to the Polish king Jan lll. Sobieski for his help in running the Turks out of Austria. The name comes from the German word for stirrup - Bůgel - in honor of the the great horseman that the king was. The bagel was brought to America by Central European Jews at the end of the 19th century. So we at Bohemia Bagel are merely following a 300 - year old bread tradition. Our bagels are prepared from start to finish on the premises and are made from local ingredients. The bagels are made with no fat, eggs or butter and are very high in protein. They are boiled in water shortly before they are baked in an oven, thus one could say that we are adherants to the New York school of bagel preparation. We do catering, and you can order our bagels, T-shirts or coffee mugs over the Internet. |
